A Letter From The President
Dear Friends,
Humbling. That best describes my first year as president of The Oneonta Club
Foundation. Leading the selection process (with Carl’s crucial support) and the
awarding of the scholarships for the first time was a humbling honor.
Thanks to generous donors like you, The Oneonta Club Foundation continues this
awesome responsibility and tradition begun nearly 50 years ago by Philip Swan
providing exceptional South Pasadena High School graduates (and their families)
with a financial boost towards fulfilling their educational dreams.
This past May the Foundation honored four students, providing three with
$10,000 towards tuition at their school of choice (one received a full ride and
waived their award allowing us to present it to another worthy applicant). Please
join me in recognizing the achievements of Sawyer Fox (West Point), Truman
Lindenthaler (UC Irvine), Mia Ramos (Boston College) and Danica Stirling
(Claremont McKenna College).
Past growth of The Oneonta Club Foundation’s endowment made us South
Pasadena’s most generous provider of individual scholarships to South Pasadena
High School seniors. For more than 15 years, the Foundation has provided grants
of $10,000 to each of three graduating students. In selecting awardees, The
Foundation looks not for the highest grades, instead we seek young men and
women with the drive, passion and determination to make a positive difference in
their community and the world.
Your generous (100% tax deductible) contributions to The Foundation enables us
to continue rewarding SPHS graduating seniors’ zeal with the financial support
they require and deserve for decades into the future. With your support (and a
good stock market), we are working to add a 4th scholarship soon.
A college education is more expensive than ever. Your charitable contributions are greatly appreciated, and you can be assured your dollars will make a difference in the lives of these gifted young people. Mia Ramos emailed me to say, “Achieving my dreams of attending a top university was largely due to the Oneonta Foundation and I hope this scholarship receives the funding to continue to make an impact on the lives of other students.” And Danica Stirling shared that, “The Oneonta Club’s incredibly generous scholarship provided me with the necessary financial flexibility to allow me to go all in and focus on my academic efforts.”
Please mail your tax-deductible contribution in any amount to the Foundation at
1613 Chelsea Road #134, San Marino, CA 91108, or donate online at
www.oneontafoundation.org.
On behalf of the students, and future students, at South Pasadena High School, thank you for your consideration.
Dean Serwin, President
The Oneonta Club Foundation
